A new work for just-intonation piano by Michael Harrison, a collaborator of Philip Glass and LaMonte Young. The New York Times described this work thusly: “Mr. Harrison strips away centuries of well-tempered convention to reveal naked notes, which he stacks up in clear chords or swirling clouds.”
Venue: Center for Contemporary Art, 1050 Old Pecos Trail.

Michael Harrison Perfoms a condensed version of Revelation and Stuart Isacoff engages the audience in lively conversation about the works special tuning and its relationship to tuning through its historical context.

Composer/Pianist Michael Harrison’s 2007 Cantaloupe release of Revelation: Music in Pure Intonation, was chosen by The New York Times and The Boston Globe as one of the best recordings of 2007. Guest speaker Stuart Isacoff, author of Temperament: How Music Became a Battleground for the Great Minds of Western Civilization (Knopf/ Vintage), answers that musical question and more.
